Earth and Space

Year 2 have been busy learning about Earth and Space in Term 4.

In term 5 the children learnt how to create and format their own imaginary worlds using Kodu Coding. Take a look at what they have created.

In term 5, the children learnt about Ramadhan and its importance in Islam. The children looked at Sunnah acts and then made their own Ramadhan calendars using these acts and included their own acts of kindness too.

Acrostic Poems

In Literacy this term (Term 4) we have been learning about acrostic poems. We learnt that acrostic poems are poems which begin with the title which is written down the side of the page.

Each line of your poem begins with a letter of the title and we wrote our poems about our love for Islam.

British Science Week

Year 2 took part in British Science Week from 13-17th March.

We conducting egg-citing experiments; carried out some serious Skittle Science research (we enjoyed eating loads); but Erupting Volcanoes was awesome.

Comparing Countries

In Term 3 Topic (Geography), Year 2 have been busy ‘Comparing Countries’ and learning about the differences between the UK and Kenya. We have been learning about both the geographical differences and social differences. Using the knowledge we gained during the topic, we created information pages and covered many national curriculum objectives in Geography, English and Computing.

In Term 3 Science, Year 2 have been learning about and investigating “Everyday Materials” covering the national curriculum objectives:

  • Identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses.
  • Observing closely, using simple equipment.
  • Using their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions.
  • Gathering and recording data to help in answering questions.

We worked in groups to choose which materials would be best suited to make our kites and then tested them out in the playground. We wrote up their investigation, sharing and analysing our results.
